Yes We Can Trust Obama about Hillary – I agree with Joan (2008)

We trusted him to get himself elected and he did.  Sure, we contributed, we voted, the electoral voted, but he got himself there by being the man he is.
If President-Elect Obama wants Hillary Clinton to be Secretary of State, then I do too.  I trust his instincts, his intellect, and his ability to make choices for our country that move us and the global world forward toward a better, safer, more civilized world.
Sometime over the summer and especially after the Democratic convention and Obama’s speech, I let the frantic worry go, the stress from not being able to control a thing, and decided that if it was Obama that I wanted very much to be President, I would trade frantic worryfor trust.
And he has yet to let me down.
When McCain was a diva and wanted to be the lone ranger (and get out of the debate and get SP out of her debate as well) Obama steadfastly said no.  He didn’t exhibit anything but his steadiness, his insightful intellect, and his leadership to a country that was reeling.
When SP came into the fray, he held steady again.  At the debate Joe Biden treated her with respect.  His camp, at every turn stuck to the issues, stuck to what we needed as a country.  And again, his visible leadership kept us calm.
I remained worried, but I also remained in-trust with Obama.
t is pretty simple really.  While I am a somewhat  educated and somewhat knowledgeable individual with some aptitude and ability, I am just that.  I am not asking to advise the leader of this nation on how to do his job.  Sure, I have opinions as do others and that is what is so great about America.  We can have opinions about almost anything and say them, write them down, publish them and discuss and debate them without any fear of reprisal (except from Bill O’Reilly, and his brethren).
But I would not tell a heart surgeon how to perform a double bypass unless I had done a few myself.  And I would not tell my vet the best way to inoculate Lulu and Phoebe unless I had done a few of those too.   The only thing I could tell these two for example, would be to take good care of those that I loved who might be under their care.
And that’s the thing.  Obama is now our President.  We gave him the job because we thought his credentials were the right ones for what we need.  Now it is time to let him do his job and trust that what we did is also what we believe in.
While I am interested in who will be his cabinet members, I trust that he will fill those positions with people who are handily able to do their job.  He has standards and he has criteria.  And I trust him to do the job.
And just in case you didn’t think your voice would be heard after the election, just hop over to the President-Elect website and there you can opinion-ate until the cows come home, and someone will listen.
Like some of you who contributed to his election, I am still getting updated emails about what’s going on.  I suspect that a new era has arrived where the internet will be the friend of the people uniting them with their government, rather than the government being the fire-wall.
 Trust President Obama’s leadership.
After all, he is the numero uno SML.

I agree, except that in reality I am the SML.

and John, totally.

thanks for the rating! my somewhat educated ego loves those.
Yes, I agree Obama is good, maybe great, and seems to make wise choices. But I do not want to just "trust" our leader. That is what has led us astray many times before. I hope the blogosphere keeps questioning so that we don't continue this "imperial presidency" notion we've had in the last eight years.
Agreed Lea, question, but I have so looked forward to dropping some cynicism. We have to begin trusting again one day. Perhaps it is too soon though. You may be right. I go based on history. Bush had a history of failure. Literally from birth to now. Obama has a history of success. Successful in his early journey of life discovery (although bumps in the road), successful in his education, successful in his Law career, successful in his marriage, successful thus far as a father, and a successful politician with credibility. I have to give him the benefit of the doubt for a minute.
Lea, Greg, I totally understand. I never for a second trusted anyone in the Bush dynasty, not even Barbara. I never thought he was smart enough, aware enough, or globally smart enough to run a car wash, let alone the country.

But I would trust Obama given his public and private past. He has integrity. And smarts. I trust integrity and I trust combination of smarts and integrity.

And we should always pay careful attention so that we know that we are moving in the direction we elected him to go in, but at the same time we should trust his instincts in selecting who helps and how we get there. Until we should not. And hopefully that will never happen as it has happened in the past with other Presidents.
