Your Money at Work from White House on Vimeo.
I just received another missive from Professor/President Obama tonight in my email. Not a day goes by that I don't hear from him. Much like my children, I am glad he keeps in touch.
I am sure that many of you received the same peppy note too. But this one was a bit of a jaw dropper because it is the very first time I have seen the mega billion money trail. Or the full stimulus bill. Or the information for how the money will be spent and tracked. The website is easy to navigate.
While the monkeying around to get the bill out of the house and senate seemed like a poor excuse for a root canal, it is finally signed, sealed and almost delivered.
It is, of course, not a perfect solution by any means, but it is a start. A good start. The frolicking up until the last minute by the Bickersons was worthy of a telenova. He said. She said. They said.
But in the end, it is about us. Our jobs. Our ability to obtain jobs, and the ability of the credit markets to start loosening up some so that lenders feel they can loan out money again.
And this time, it is quite clear that this President will make accountability a priority. We will know where the money is going. From the website they've set up we might even be able to talk about how well, or how badly it is working.
No matter what anyone thinks of the Bickerson's partisan tantrums, it is quite clear that the President is taking the high road. What a mensch.

Bingo! You've got it exactly right.
Obama will continue to be the telegenic figurehead while his ugly seniors in Congress will call the shots and push the pork. If anyone takes comfort from that, may the force be with you. And is there any evidence to the contrary? Is there one instance where presidential action has had any effect upon the congressional juggernaut?

Another campaign promise kept. He's already done better than the last guy did in eight years.

Very cool.
Partsianship goes back to George Washington. There was never a "golden age of partisianship" domestically.
So the President just has to keep doing what he's doing. taking the high road.
(That---and the fact that his helicopter flew over my house) are what makes him so cool. It's not about image or rhetoric. Its about setting a direction for what works. That's what real leaders do.
We're just not used to it. . .

Persephone13 - me too.
Thanks Ann. Everytime I hear them "debating" by whine, they are hereby dubbed the Bickersons.
MJ - Menschlichkeit. The art of mensch. Yes, it is spelled right. And the honor is bestowed on many who are other faiths all the time. I respectfully differ on the money and drain part. Some of it will of course be wasted, but some of it will work.
Gordon. Patience. Just watch. There is truth to the civility statement.
jimmy - indeed.
Roger - I remember Clinton's AF1 taking off from Moffett, in our backyard practically. The Geek's office at Sun was at the end of the runway. He saw the plane fly right over - a sight to see! I agree. And taking the high road always appeals.
