L&P Respond to Salon's Pet Week (2009)

In response to this week's reporting of all things pets in Salon, we would just like to offer our take, especially to Katie Rolnick's Pet Trends that Must Die.   We might agree with most of her top ten list, but we draw the line at comfortable, but fashionable attire and strollers.
Lulu and Phoebe would like Katie to know that Boston Terriers and other dogs with limited hair follicle ability will need sweaters to keep them warm in the cold.  And frankly, ask any Boston's human and they will tell you that without a raincoat, said dog will not go outside in  inclement weather for days.  Yes, they will hold everything until they actually explode.   But thankfully, rain gear does the trick.
Strollers, while admittedly strange serve a different purpose.   We agree that they are just plain silly when driving Miss Fifi just because one can.  But a dog who has just had patella surgery, or has another health issue that precludes long walks on the beach, appreciate a roll around the neighborhood.   Sometimes you just can't see the disability.   And sometimes when you have a gaggle of canines, tossing them in a stroller in order to get from point A to point B without smelling every single blade of pissed on grass is handy.   Case in point.

Sometimes you just have to let the gestalt take over.  Lulu has a bit of trouble  with her wardrobe.  Like any other 4 year old she likes to choose her clothing, but has trouble with how things go together.
We know that the weather in California can be unpredictable this time of year, and in fact, we are having periods of sunshine mixed with dark clouds and rain (sounds an awful lot like the economy).   Lulu would like to be prepared.   Doggles for the sun, and rainhat for the, um, rain.
And for some reason, she thinks wearing bells around her neck will help keep her warm.
Is there a canine shrink in the house?
Oops.  Katie might have to add #11 to her list.   Canine shrinks....

You know I love the Bostons (as a proud owner, myself). Rated for bug-eyed loyalty.
Love the bugeyed breeds. My doxie has back problems and often wears clothes to ward off the chill. and has her own electric blanket.
SO cute.
Puppy Monster wants everyone to be dressed like her, which is why she sheds all over the sofas. Sit on the sofa, and instant Puppy Monster wardrobe.
That lil pup is just too cute. Like the hat Lulu!
Lulu my dear...I know your taste is better than to wear holiday bells after January 1!!!!

Seriously though, I definitely just snorted loudly in my office when I saw this photo. I love that little dog.
Oh that picture of Lulu is priceless! I finally gave in to the idea of putting a sweater on Shelby. She would stick like glue to my leg, shivering, from it being so chilly in the house. The sweater solved the problem. Now she makes me put her sweater on first thing every morning. Does Phoebe dress up, too?
Thanks everyone.

Sheldon - we do need pictures!

o'stephanie - I think Katie may have to change her top ten list! Almost got the L&P heated beds, but they sleep with us most of the time anyway. Doxies don't like the cold either! I bet you have to buy xxxlong!

Mrs. Michaels - wearing dog hair is a sign of love

Thank you Crayons

Jess - she wears white after labor day too....

Yay for Shelby! I think dog sweaters are underrated. Yep, Phoebe wears sweaters too, but not as many layers as Lulu. Lulu can actually dress herself (hum....did I just hear Ms. Rolnick roll her eyes?). If you hold the neck open she will jump in and at the same time take her front paws and pop them through the arm holes. And if you leave the sweaters out, she will chose. Honestly, she is a little bit strange. Phoebe still has dog sense - she will wear a sweater but you can see that she would rather not be seen with it in public if she can help it. Um, they do undress one another.
oops. choose, not chose. hello, edit comment function????
I could totally see Lulu in something sequined, perhaps Balenciaga?
Could they be more adorable? I don't think so.

Thanks for the pictures.
CB, funny you should say that. Lulu loves couture. Her current favorite is Louboutin. Something about the red sole I think. And pearls. Nothing like a sweater with pearls to make her happy enough to smile.
Nothing like cute paws to get my day rolling!

So rated!
My nephew Guido the Pimp Pug wants to know if Lulu is on facebook ... he thinks she's HAWT!!!
Hahaha. Phoebe is, not Lulu. Poor Phoebe just needed some attention so facebook it was. You can find her: Phoebe McGee. Yeah, yeah, stop laughing. That is actually her name.
Rated for adorable-ness! Hobie's not an "outfit" kind of dog, when I first got him I put a big red white and blue bow on him and took him to a Fourth of July parade. I spent the entire time going around asking people "Does this bow make my dog look gay?"
LuluandPhoebe. I may have mentioned? We have a standard black poodle named, Lu Lu.
Her playmate is Ring-o.
If they ever conceive? OY!
O hope the offspring will be?
A balding human hippy ~ Yikes!
Hippo's? Bald ex-hippies wearing,
tie-dyed hair scrunchie? O Maybe?
The store bought grey hair wisp dye?
Then, no worries. No listen to a cranky.
Ya' feed Ya canines a yellow banana? huh.
No. You seem to love those adorable pets.
Blessed is the blogger who NO hear a wife?
I tease. No listen to cranky grey hair spouse.
WOOF.
O Love.
O Goof.
Arthur - you always make me smile. I love your poems and we need to see pictures of your LuLu!

Jen - Thank you! BTW, bows on boys are adorable.
I'm considering the fancy blogger, Ludicrous?
I an a newbie. At the perfect time I'll get help?
I paste carrots, blueberries, Lu Lu, angel grub,
devils food cake, pumpkin pie, and ice cream?
In the meantime, I'll sit @ O.S. and annoy Ya?
No. I count on my sore and wet dog nose, toe?
How many folk did I irritate? I hope none, tho.
God, I think that last picture might be the funniest thing I've seen in ages. :D
