The California twin CEO candidates are off to a fine start.
Fast becoming queen of mean, Carly Fiorina dressed in her best imitation of Queen Elizabeth, was caught on open mic (and camera) dissing both Whitman and Boxer. When someone finally told her the mic was live, Fiorina had that momentary deer in the headlight look.
Her first comments are about Whitman's appearance on Hannity and what a bad idea that was, blah blah blah. Later on, after talking about cheeseburgers, and almost to the end of the video, Fiorina disses Boxer's hair calling it so yesterday. Why yes, Carly, the one with the most modern hair style will win the election.
Since winning the primary nomination, both Fiorina and Whitman seem to be acting like heirs apparent. They failed to take even a moment to convey to the voters any humility or humbleness in their primary wins.
Whitman is already calling her opponent, Jerry Brown, Governor Sunbeam redux. Fiorina has already aired an ad criticizing Boxer for calling climate change (global warming) a threat to national security. Fiorina apparently thinks global warming is nothing more than worrying about a warm day.
Brown asked Whitman to debate at 10 ten hall meetings and Whitman shot back that when Brown had ten ideas to discuss she would consider it. She said that both her pamphlet and website explain her positions about almost every concern citizens might have. She actually told Brown to "make his website come alive". It seems, according to Whitman, a slick website and pretty brochure are how one communicates governance. Brown tossed back that Whitman's brochure/pamphlet is a nice glossy read, however most of the pages are pictures.
With this kind of rancor right out of the starting gate, the election season should prove to be pretty volatile and entertaining. And expensive.
Joan Walsh points out that both republican women are tracking to the far right to appease a particular constituency. A constituency that has not typically been popular with majority of California voters.
It may have helped them win the repulican (and tea baggery) primary - the game to see who could move furtherest to the right, but it won't help them much in the general election. Most voters in California don't think of a Sarah Palin (Fiorina) or Dick Cheney (Whitman) endorsement as all that valuable.
Does Mr. Potato Head want his boss (Whitman) back now that Elvis is in the building?
And we hear that Iran is still having trouble with their HP printers. Perhaps Carly could offer some on site assistance?
Hi Boss! How ya doin? (AP)

Since neither of these ladies make much of a habit of voting, they don't seem to know how to talk to voters. California can be such a crap shoot, but I believe we will not fall for this dog & pony show.
They are all idiots! We continue to try and believe politicians because we want them to be honorable. It is not going to happen! I trust the people on OS more than politicians. Great writing and great post!
Kathy! Exactly. I knew that she looked so familiar. Martin Short....oh dear. Jon Stewart is going to love that.
Thanks for coming by Anthony and Dave and Lib. Should be an entertaining election season. Let's just hope the dems can deflect and not get mired down in he said/she said and instead, just talk to the voters.

And, of course, these are the same voters that have allowed a rich and beautiful state to become the country's poor relation. Maybe it's time to see if some conservatives can strangle California a little more slowly.

Well...it is entertaining...in a sort of sad and wacky way. I loved your snarky "dressed in her best imitation of Queen Elizabeth." Except it really looks better on the Queen.
At a time when women are finally becoming viable candidates for high powered political positions, why are icy aloof she devil characters like Martha Coakely and these two CA women who we get? Or goofy nutballs like Palin and the birther lady. They make women as politicians look like a bad bet. They give the media too many opportunities for ridicule. Why can't a smart no nonsense woman of warmth and integrity get elected?
Kathy - Why do you hate Martin Short? I'm pretty sure he would look better than that in drag.
Gordon - The conservatives already strangled California pretty much to death. Letting a couple of more extreme examples have a go is not going to help.
Greenheron - As a former resident of the UK, let me tell you none of them compare for sheer destructive power to Margaret Thatcher. The only good thing she ever did was make me move to America.

It's going to be a looong five months. And yet, I hope they both turn off so many voters, that Brown and Boxer will walk away with this one .
Just keep saying idiotic things into live mics please, Ms. Fiorina.
Meg, keep thinking of the governorship as a big picture book. I givve you both the far right vote; you should both be very popular in Orange County. I just pray you'll self-destruct everywhere else.

a crisp snark and highly enjoyable. The hair remark is an exemplar of the Republican Political Woman's perspective on the universe
Very good. I depend on you for illumination regarding California politics. Incidentally, have you written about Proposition 14? I read George Will's diatribe on the subject. I'm curious to know your view.
