Meet Smera, E-car debuting in Paris
Smart Cars for two seem relatively tiny to begin with. And expensive. But they can't be beat for filling in traffic holes when drivers won't pull up while stuck in traffic. Unfamiliar? Not in Europe. If you leave a hole in traffic, don't have a heart attack when a little Smart car invades that car length in front of you with room to spare. But now there is a new kid on the
However, it might be risky to depend on that statement. Most of us have learned that these calculations are merely suggestions. After all, my cell phone should last 7 days on stand-by. But within three days, it needs a plug in. Smera might be up to the task, but I would park near an electrical outlet if I owned one!
Right now you can only buy Smera in Paris for about $33,000. That seems like big bucks for a car that is mostly a widget with four wheels. Fine. A titling widget on four wheels. You can carry luggage, or you can carry a small passenger. Phoebe barely fits in the back, but Lulu seems to be comfortable in the front. Thankfully she does not know how to drive.
Unlike the Smart Car where two Kelly Ripa sized passengers, can sit side by side, the Smera places the passenger behind the driver. The Smera comes with some options. One option is to leave your passenger to take public transportation and you cart the packages home in the back. Apparently you cannot do both.
Perhaps if American car makers could begin to offer these kinds of innovative choices, silly as they may be at the get-go, more of us would actually buy American. Then again, the future belongs to the global world and so should the development and accessibility of inventions like Smera.
Where the croissant goes, so goes the auto. Expect to find supersized Smeras hitting the United States sometime in the future.

I speed read the title and I though you wrote smegma, sorry. I have friend who bought a smart car last year and they also own a Prius. They walk the walk.
Well written! If they'd create mini-only roads I might consider it, but yes, the vs. semi issue is concerning. I can imagine SF doing this in the future though. Who knows. Love the dogs!
I'd love to have one of these cute little cars. But I think with the amount of interstate driving I do, someone driving a monster SUV would notice something stuck in their grill when they stopped.
I do think this is the direction to go though.

Lisa - the dogs insist they want the car. Yeah, a semi or even an ordinary boat car is a worry.
OE - now that made me giggle.
Rosemary - thank you! yes, mini only roads would be nice, or if we all drove smaller vehicles that would help.
Steve - Your comment made me picture the Wizard of Oz with all the stuff flying by Doro - the remake will include a Smera!
Suzn- it is the right direction, but we need to integrate them carefully because that is a huge concern.

This car frightens me. Doggies look very cosmopolitan. But the car still frightens me. What if one has indigestion... gas?
When I look at cars like these all I can think of is, "Oh, how cute!". But I always imagine myself using it like a golf cart because the act of taking one out on the freeway is accompanied by visions of being squashed by a semi and the paramedic prying me loose with the equivalent of a giant can opener. I pass.
I have a Smart car - and trust me sistah - I'm no Kelly Ripa! It's actually very roomy inside, and because you sit up higher than an average small car, you don't quite feel like you're gonna get squashed by a housewife in a Hummer. And without a back seat, I can always easily decline to offer people I don't like a ride out of courtesy... this looks like a cute cousin :)
If you're in an accident with a semi, I don't think the outcome would be all that different whether you were driving this car or a Suburban. And this one's way cuter!
This is very very cool. And the dog look fabbbulous, darling.
Oh, when will we wake the hell up around here?
rated for being ahead of the curve.

MM - I think the windows open....but seriously, it is tiny!
Tiffany - it does have that golf cart on steroids quality, eh?
iamsurly - yes, I know. I saw tons in Paris and they are pretty roomy, imagine half a Smart for a seat. Now that would be tight.
mabinogi - true! a semi and anything is not pretty.
gracie - we will have to get going with this. and it will have to be global I would think. And thanks - the dogs have said that they would love the car more than my imagination....

I don't know of the name, but I saw a taxi-yellow version in my small, eco-friendly, green loving, leftover hippy town yesterday. (I say this with love, heck I'm here.)
Naturally it did not have your cutie pies in it, and I admit I thought it looked odd...in a just-been-hit by a semi and this is all there is left sort of way. However, after seeing it in silver I approve! They have to change the name...Lé Petit is more apt.

I love Smart cars and see more and more of them around here. I remember first seeing one in Europe in 2001 and having to immediately stop and take a picture. It hardly looked like a real car. Now they're starting to seem normal. I love small cars ( have a Honda Civic, my 3rd) and am tempted to get one whenever i next buy a new car....
I'd love to have one of those or a smart car because gasoline is just out of control however, I'm afraid driving one in this part of the Deep South would be tantamount to suicide. The roads here are literally filled with the most monstrous SUVs and pick-ups you can imagine. Seriously, the local Hummer dealer was one of the top sellers in the region at one point.
I don't feel completely safe as is in my old '97 Buick Le Sabre (a car I consider too big) and still have trouble peering through the sea of leviathans on my cross town jaunts. I'd definitely have to stick to the back streets in one of the economical models.

I keep seeing Smart Cars here too. But the funny thing is that I keep seeing them in the Costco parking lot. What the hell can you buy at Costco that would fit in a Smart Car?
Buffy - what you saw was a Smart. Smera is only available in Paris just now. I've seen the taxi yellow Smart. I want to raise my hand and have it pick me up! It is cute, isn't it?!
Gordon - that is silly, isn't it. however, I think that there are changes in the works that will make that go away.
Silkstone - A Honda lasts for such a long time! Maybe the little Smera will be here by that time?
Kevin - I can totally see it. A little Smera in the bed of a pickup..... Wait! Maybe 2 of them?
Jeanette - hehehe. I've wondered that myself. Maybe a giant bag of M&Ms?

This is JUST what I've been looking for - and probably a lot of other people have too. GM should start making them - now that we taxpayers own it. I see the market for this as people in two-car families where the second car is just used to drive to and from a transit hub, and maybe for a local errand or two. True, I'd be scared to take it on the freeway, but that what's hubby's Prius is for! It would get me to the BART station or grocery store just FINE. Price seems awfully steep though.
OK ~ I had to rate this before even reading a word ... that picture!!! OMG ... that is the best thing ever. I'm printing it just because it's so damn cute!!! I love it and now I'll go read your post. xoxo
